Johnny Dufort captures the world through his photographs as if it is always on the brink of BECOMING mythical. His works are tactile, fevered, and cinematic in equal measure, as if more interested in the feeling of their subject matter than in its documentation. The reason why Dufort’s WORK IS so captivating is how he fuses two different worlds – fashion photography with its elegance and documentary photography with its spontaneity. His work HAS a sense of being found rather than made, even when everything in his photos has been carefully constructed by Dufort himself. Among other things that make Dufort’s works stand out, his connection to texture should be mentioned. Skin, mud, smoke, water, fabric, fog, animal fur, and wet concrete – all of that contributes to the sense of palpability present in Dufort’s photographs. There’s not much Johnny Dufort is afraid to do differently.
ONE THING THAT MAKES DEFORTS WORK SO UNIQUE IS THE USE OF HIS COLOUR PALETTE WITHIN HIS PHOTOGRAPHY. HE USUALLY USES BRUISED GREENS, HEAVY SHADOWS, SODIUM YELLOWS, GREY BLUES AND SHOCKING RED. THE COLOURS CONVEY EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS INSTEAD OF PORTRAYING THE REALITY OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT. AS A RESULT, HE SUCCEEDS IN MAKING ALL HIS PHOTOGRAPHS EERIE AS THEY HAVE SOME SORT OF SURREALISTIC AND FOLKLORE QUALITIES TO THEM, WHICH CREATES HEAPS OF BEAUTY IN HIS IMAGES.

THE SUBJECTS WITHIN HIS WORK ARE USUALLY OBSCURED, MOVING AND PARTIALLY LIT UP OR LOST WITHIN THE SURROUNDINGS. SOMETIMES THE FACE VANISHES IN THE SHADOWS, Bodies blend into landscapes and compositions themsleves seem to be in motion.
STUDIO 3 WAS A HUGE HELP WITHIN THIS SHOOT AS THE CREATIVE TEAM TOOK FULL CONTROL OVER THE FULL STUDIOS’ CLEAN DESIGN AND MADE THIS SHOOT COME TO LIFE. WITH THE STUDIOS’ expansive, and versatile layout AND OFFERING AN UNRIVALLED SETTING FOR AMBITIOUS PRODUCTIONS WHICH HELPED THEM to use different locations within Studio 3 TO MAKE THE SHOOT FEEL MORE PLAYFUL.
